What is a Zygoma Implant?
Zygomatic implants mark a recent milestone in dental implant technology. Originally pioneered in the late 1990s by Dr. Per Ingvar Branemark, a revered figure in the realm of dental implantology, these implants have garnered significant acclaim. This acclaim is especially pronounced among patients who do not meet the criteria for traditional dental implants.
Why Zygomatic implants?
Zygomatic implants, in contrast to traditional ones, securely anchor into the cheekbone (zygomatic bone) rather than the upper jaw (maxilla). Consequently, they prove especially valuable when there’s an inadequate quality or quantity of maxillary bone for regular implants. This makes them an excellent alternative for individuals with bone loss, effectively eliminating the need for invasive and less predictable bone grafting procedures.
What Are Pterygoid Implants?
Pterygoid implants, specifically designed for patients dealing with atrophic maxilla characterized by significant upper jaw shrinkage, provide an alternative. In contrast, regular dental implants prove unsuitable for these cases due to the inadequate fusion of the jawbone around the implant root, ultimately resulting in implant failure.
Moreover, in this predicament, patients do have an alternative, which is using dentures. However, it’s worth noting that pterygoid implants offer a considerably more robust solution for addressing issues like missing teeth. Additionally, they can work in tandem with traditional dental implants. Unlike conventional implants that anchor vertically into the jawbone, pterygoid implants distinguish themselves by anchoring at a precise 45-degree angle into the medial pterygoid plate.
Why Pterygoid implants?
A pterygoid implant offers the advantage of permanent tooth replacement, effectively restoring your self-confidence and enabling you to chew food as naturally as with your own teeth. Moreover, these implants closely mimic the appearance of natural teeth, making their maintenance notably straightforward. What are Nasalis Implants?
In cases of a severely resorbed maxilla, Zygomatic Implants utilize the zygomatic bone, while Nasalis Implants utilize the maxillary bone near the nose. These implants initiate within the alveolar bone at the pre-molar and extend into the bone that separates the maxillary sinus from the nasal cavity. To accommodate this specialized function, these implants must be of extra length, spanning across the sinus, and must be angulated at 24°.
